Hyaluronic acid fillers are a popular, non-surgical solution for smoothing wrinkles and restoring facial volume.
At REJUVENE Plastic Surgery, we believe in enhancing your innate beauty with precision and care. Dr. Deborah Sillins, a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, personally evaluates each patient and uses a holistic approach that blends aesthetics with wellness. The seven pre- and post-treatment practices outlined below can also ensure optimal outcomes.
1. Avoid Alcohol for 24–48 Hours
Alcohol can thin your blood, making bruising and swelling more likely. Skip cocktails, wine, and beer for at least a day before and after your appointment.
2. Don’t Take Blood Thinners
Medications like aspirin and ibuprofen, as well as supplements like fish oil or vitamin E, can heighten your bruising risk. Taking a break from them can help you prevent bruising, but always talk to your healthcare provider before you stop taking any prescribed medications.
3. Hold Off on Intense Exercise
Skip vigorous workouts for 24 to 48 hours after your session. Elevated heart rate and blood pressure can exacerbate swelling or bruising.
4. Avoid Heat Exposure
Stay out of saunas, hot tubs, and direct sunlight for a couple of days after your injections. Heat can increase inflammation and prolong swelling.
5. Don’t Touch or Massage the Treated Area
You might be tempted to check your results, but don’t touch, rub, or apply pressure to the area for at least 24 hours. This allows the filler to settle properly.
6. Say No to Other Facial Treatments
Avoid facials, chemical peels, microneedling, or laser procedures for about two weeks after your filler session. These can interfere with your outcomes or irritate your skin.
7. Skip Smoking
Smoking can impede healing and may affect your skin’s response to the filler. Avoid smoking for several days before and after your appointment.
